🦉 WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK:
📺 It’s probably no surprise to hear that Dr. Jane Goodall has been a lifelong inspiration to me, and is someone I made sure my kids heard a lot from and about. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend Jane, filmmaker Brett Morgan’s 2017 documentary, which features previously unseen footage of Goodall’s work in 1960s Gombe, captured by wildlife filmmaker (and Jane’s husband) Hugo van Lawick.
National Geographic has also just released the full episode of Jane Goodall: The Hope on their YouTube channel, which documents her life as an activist and traveler over the last few decades.
🪶 Indigenous Peoples' Day is next Monday, October 13th. The National Education Association offers Resources for Teaching About Indigenous Peoples, and We Are Teachers shares How to Celebrate and Honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day with additional resources and activities. TKSST also features Indigenous Peoples and topics. Some of my favorite North American-based videos include:
• The science of Blue Corn Mush, a classic indigenous recipe (which is just one in New Mexico PBS’ Indigi-Genius video series).
📻 Good news for podcast fans: The Brains On Universe is back! When previously allocated Federal funds for public broadcasting were rescinded by Congress, American Public Media made cuts, which included shutting down their incredible podcasts for kids.
Then, over the summer, Brains On creators and hosts Molly Bloom, Marc Sanchez, and Sanden Totten pooled resources and bought the rights to their shows. Their company is now fully independent, and new shows will air as soon as October 21st! Visit BrainsOn.org to support and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.
Have a good rest of your week. - Rion
