❄️ WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK:
🌍 This Earth Month 2025 April Calendar is new from our friends at Subject to Climate. Each day includes a theme and showcases FREE resources and activities for different grade levels. They also share climate literacy education hubs by state for Connecticut, Maine, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Wisconsin, and ECCLPs for California. Plus, more news and resources:
💻 KQED Education Events: Get Ready to Teach Earth Month: Inspire Hope and Student Engagement, a FREE April 1st webinar.
🧮 NPR Video: Kids are struggling in both math and reading—except in two states, Louisiana and Alabama. Learn what they’re doing differently.
📚 Library Journal and SLJ: Trauma-Informed Librarianship: Centering Relationships and Care, a 3-week online PD course and workshop.
🏛️📚 And ICYMI: a March 14th executive order aims to eliminate The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the only federal funding source for America's libraries and museums. This is an alarming threat to our nation's cultural and educational institutions.
I wrote my initial thoughts here, but please visit ALA.org to take immediate action. They’ve made it easy to speak up for our libraries and museums. Also, please call your representatives in Congress: ☎️(202) 224-3121. A few minutes of your time today can push back on this destructive action and preserve these vital spaces for future generations. - Rion
