⚙️ WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK:
🕊️ This morning, November 12 at 11am EST / 8am PST, Dr. Jane Goodall will be honored at the Washington National Cathedral. View the public live-stream here.
🪶 As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, you might revisit TKSST’s growing collection of Native American-focused videos—stories and perspectives that highlight creativity, culture, and knowledge shared by Indigenous creators and communities.
🎧 Last week, I ran into Alie Ward (of Ologies fame) at our local coffee shop, and she mentioned her kid-friendly podcast spinoff, Smologies. Of course, it's fantastic—the same in-depth science interviews, but tailored for kids, complete with all the 'ologies': lepidopterology, scorpiology, chiropterology, mycology, carnivore ecology, and more. You might recognize a few scientists from TKSST, including Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant, Phil Torres, Dr. Lauren Esposito, Dr. Shane Campbell-Staton, and Dr. Earyn McGee.
Alie Ward on TKSST includes: The Rocket Scientist Who Invented the Super Soaker, The Soccket, an energy-generating soccer ball that turns into a lamp, and How are sustainable SuperAdobe homes built?
📞 Ward also reminded me about Skype a Scientist, a free program that connects classrooms, libraries, and homeschool groups with real scientists for live Q&A sessions. Whether your kids are curious about sharks, space, or slime molds, you can browse their directory or request a scientist by field. Sessions typically last 30–45 minutes, and the scientists volunteer their time. Sign-ups are here.
Both free resources came from a coffee shop chat, illustrating how inspired recommendations can serendipitously spark from our real-life connections.
☕ Speaking of which: You can now Buy Me a Coffee as a one-time thank you. Think of it as a tip jar for when TKSST curation helps you discover a new favorite creator, inspires your next project, sparks conversation, or delights with a few great videos—perfect for those who've asked about supporting without membership. (And of course, TKSST Memberships are still here if you’d like to help keep TKSST thriving long-term.)
Your support = more time finding gems, less time worrying about keeping the site running. Thank you, as always. - Rion

Do red cars cost more to insure?

You may have heard the myth that red cars cost more to insure, often with varying reasons why. The truth is, the color of your car has nothing to do with your premium. Insurance companies are more interested in your vehicle’s make, model, age, safety features, and your driving history. What’s not a myth, though — is that people really can save a ton of money by switching insurers. Check out Money’s car insurance tool to see if you could, too.
